TOP 5 Canadian Skiing Resorts

In keeping with its little world-take-over strategy aimed at assimilating resorts into its information realm, our wambrella team has crossed the Canadian border. So, if you are tired of dally-dallying over the choice of where to spend your winter holiday and have a rigorous skiing or snowboarding experience, we are here to help you!

Whistler Mountain Resort

Whistler Mountain Resort is a sheer paradise for skiers and snowboarders, as well as for other guys seeking a peaceful time off. Located in the Coast Mountains, in the province of British Columbia, Canada, and right at the bottom of Blackcomb and Whistler Mountains, it reveals countless venues for all sorts of winter activities.
Skiers and snowboarders – both beginners and experienced ones – can attend Whistler Blackcomb Ski and Snowboard School, enjoy a lesson from the industry’s top instructors.

We keep the finger on the pulse as to possible weather anomalies, just like the Jan 11/2013 snowfall, so you won’t get into an avalanche while burning up Blackcomb’s beautiful slopes!

Revelstoke Mountain Resort

Revelstoke Mountain Resort is one of Canada’s (and North America’s) top mountain resorts for skiers, particularly cat-skiers and heli-skiers. The terms refer to ‘cats’ – motorized steep groomers with cabins, and helicopters, which take skiers back uphill to the starting points, because runs are very long. For this reason, Revelstoke Mountain Resort is good for intermediate and advanced skiers rather than beginners. However, there is a lift-serviced terrain, which is divided into several zones, one intended for beginner skiers and snowboarders. Although winters in British Columbia are wet, it is cooler high up in the mountains, and there is always plenty of dry and powdery snow.

Wambrella will warn you about any possibility of thaw by way of comfort level references.

Whitewater Mountain Resort

Located in Southern British Columbia, Canada, Whitewater Ski Resort has a reputation of one of the most laid-back and old-style ski resorts in North America. It is situated in a high alpine bowl near Ymir Mountain of the Selkrik Mountains, and it boasts a beautiful and convenient terrain. The abundance of dry snow guarantees satisfaction for skiers and snowboarders. Until recently, it was more beginner-oriented, and now it is an attraction for professionals as well.

According our weather comfort level observations, winter in the upland is moderately cool with an average of 15 days of temperature below -10°C. Although White Water Ski Resort does not compete (yet!) with larger resorts in terms of infrastructure, it has won several awards for snow quality and the terrain.

Fernie Alpine Resort

Located in the southeast of British Columbia, Canada, Fernie Alpine resort attracts ski- and snowboard fans from around the continent and overseas. Beautiful sceneries, well-developed infrastructure (10 lifts and 142 runs) and more-than-average annual snowfall create a skiing/snowboarding wonderland. Thanks to its varied terrain, Fernie Alpine Resort is a Mecca for both beginner and expert skiers/snowboarders. The resort hires a team of experienced instructors.
It was above zero throughout the first half of December in the area, and there were no snowfalls. It snowed for the first time at the beginning of Jan, and it snowed heavily on Jan 16. Also, it was quite frosty ( approx. -15°C) from mid-Dec until mid-Jan.

Sunshine Village Ski Resort

Sunshine Village Ski Resort sits in the middle of Banff National Park, high along the Continental Divide, near the town of Banff.
The skiable area expands over 3,300 acres and includes dozens of runs, steeps, chutes and bowls, where skiers and snowboarders of all levels, also relying on our comfort level analysis, can test, verify and improve their skills.

More precisely, about 55% of its slopes are great for intermediate skiers/snowboarders, and the remaining part is shared by beginners and experts.

The resort boasts the longest skiing season in Canada, stretching from November until May. Throughout the first ten days of December the temperature was above zero, and it dropped drastically before the last third and remained low (-12… -20°C) until the end of the month.
Around Jan 10, there was a 3-day period of fluctuations with temperature soaring from -20°C to -2°C and back down to -9°C. It rose above zero on Jan 26, and it remains warm so far.
