Soelden ski resort offers about 240 ski days per year. The official ski season usually starts later in September and ends early in May thanks to 2 glacier areas. The valley runs are available from December until April.
The longest ski trail in Austria with a 15 km run is situated between the elevations of 1,350 and 3,340 m. The Alpine World Cup traditionally starts in this area at the end of October.
At the beginning and at the end of the season skiers enjoy High skiing comfort level on the glacier areas, more than 80% in October, November, April and May are super good for skiing. Other 20% are split between Medium and Low skiing comfort levels. During winter time (from December until March) glacier area sticks only with 50% of the High skiing comfort level due to higher altitude, which brings white-out conditions with low cloud, fog or heavy snow as well as very low temperature below -15C. The rest 30% goes to Medium skiing comfort level and 20% to Low.
Valley terrain is north and east facing, which minimizes direct sun rays during the day and increases skiing comfort level. Colder temperature in December leads to better snow quality compared with Springtime. This is the time when skiers get warmer days and face slightly melted snow especially in the afternoon. Ski enthusiasts enjoy 77% of High skiing comfort level. They are still OK with 17% of Medium and should occupy themselves with restaurants, SPA and other non skiing activities during 6% of days due to Low skiing comfort level. The Most interesting fact is that Low days are spread during the whole season and might occur in December and January as well as in April. So visitors are welcome to come to the unbelievable resort with 146 km of pistes during the whole season.
